Lake Rabun is one of the most beautiful lakes in the mountains of North Georgia. It’s nine mile, one thousand acre reservoir was built by Georgia Power in 1915 to hold water in reserve for hydroelectric plants to generate electricity for homes and businesses in Atlanta and north Georgia.
Today it sparkles and gleams and is one of the most coveted spots in the Southeast to vacation and return to the joys of full engagement with nature – her forests, streams, cascading rivers, waterfalls, quiet coves, and majestic mountains. Days here are filled with water skiing and rafting, swimming, tubing, boating, fishing, hiking and so much more.
The Lake Rabun Hotel was built in 1922 by the founder of the Lake Rabun Community, Augustus Andreae and through its continuous operation has become an institution of the lake. Recently it was lovingly restored and now features native stone waterfalls outside its entrance, original woodwork throughout, scenic decks and balconies overlooking the lake, fine art, oriental rugs, antique rhododendron furniture, comfortable queen sized beds, a new cedar tree bar and restaurant serving gourmet and special southern entrees. Best of all it features pride of place and the warm hospitality for which the South is known.
